The extortionist taxi men must be reined in

The norm is, a little spike in the price of fuel by about 50 shillings usually triggers a humongous hike in transport fares by about Shs 300 -500.

As we speak now, a litre of petrol costs about 3500 up from 2800 last December. But over the four months’ stretch, the transport fares have more than tripled in some places. Government concedes it has no control over fuel prices because the market is liberalized and there are external market forces beyond its realm.
